Magnifica temp setting via hidden Espresso button combo?

Found this while researching the De'Longhi Magnifica and wondered if anyone else have experienced the same. The machine adjusts the brew temperature via a button combination while it is in standby mode (main switch in an I position).
With the machine off and the switch in the I position, press and hold the espresso button. Repeated press of the espresso button cycle the brew temperature from low to high. Once you find the brew temp you want, press and hold the long button to save the setting. Seems simple enough.
Does this work for the entire Magnifica line or just specific models? Each model has different buttons and settings so the buttons would have to be present on the machine to be use. Does this save through a descaling cycle?
Have any of you actualy found this to work on your Magnifica machines? Should be a discussion topic when someone complains about their espresso being lukewarm (assuming you dont just tell them to preheat their cup : )). Should be mentioned in the manual which barely do.

works on my S model, did it about a year ago. Went from default (which i think is middle) up to max and the espresso is noticeably hot. Survived two descales since then so it does persist at least on mine.

Preheat the cup. That's 90% of the lukewarm complaints right there. These machines pull such a tiny shot that a cold ceramic cup absolutely kill it before you even get to the spoon.

wait does the rear switch actually need to be in I for this or will it work if its already been on for a while? like does standby mean fully powered down or just the front button off

the manual barely mentions it because delonghi doesnt want users fiddling with it lol. Same reason the water hardness setting is buried. They expect you to call service.

standby = front button off, rear switch still on I.
if you flip the rear off you lose the combo entry, at least on mine you do.

gotcha thanks. And follow up, when you cycle through the levels how do you know which level you're on?

The LEDs above the buttons indicates which level you are on with the ECAM variants. Each light = one level, so 1 for low, 2 for med, 3 for high, and 4 for max. If you have the basic Magnifica model with no light indicator then you're in the dark and have to guess at the button presses, though I would just make it to the espresso button 3 times.

I ran this combo on a Magnifica S Smart last spring after my wife started lamenting the relatively tepid nature of the lattes I was making for her and her friends. The temperature increase helped with the issue, but descaling was truly what fixed it. For whiles I was just using the quick descaling procedure with citric acid every few months. But scale buildup in the boiler were affecting the performance of the machine. Using a screwdriver I was able to remove the scale that had built up on the boiler over time. After performing a deep clean of the machine and adjusting the temperature setting to the maximum level I've been able to make hot espresso shots for the first time in over 2 year.

There's just no getting around it with this Delonghi model. The thermoblock and the tiny shot of espresso that extracts through the cold portafilter equivalent just makes for sad coffee. The setting may help you with 5 degree C in the cup, tops. Get a machine with a proper boiler for hot espresso.

Nobody who is buying a Magnifica is going to shell out $2,000 for a dual boiler if their coffee is only 3 degrees cooler. The temperature setting and preheated cup will get you 95% of the way there.

Confirmed that the issue persists through the descaling process on my ECAM22.110. Set to max about 3 years ago and have descaled several times since, never had to redo the espresso temperature setting. However, the water hardness can sometimes reset itself.
