i opened mine because the paddle stopped spinning and turned out the gear was just stripped. Didnt even need to mess with the motor. Anyway yeah the spanner bit thing is annoying but not a big deal
the gear thing is super common. Its like a soft nylon and it just chews itself up after enough hard ice cream batches

It's not about trade secrets. It's so when grandma sticks a fork in there and electrocutes herself the lawyer can point at the tamper screw.

#6 worked on mine. Anything in the middle of the kit should be fine, its not tiny and not huge
alot of people dont realize you can also just heat the screw with a soldering iron for a few seconds, the loctite or whatever they use breaks down and it backs out way easier. Learned that trick from an old tv repair guy years ago and its saved me alot of headache on stuck fasteners.

the loctite trick is good but for a plastic housing be careful, the heat conducts and you can warp the surrounding plastic real quick

maybe 5-10 seconds with a 40w. You'll feel it loosen up when its ready. Dont sit there cooking it

ngl the whole post is kind of overthinking it. Its one screw. Buy the 10 dollar kit, use it once, throw the kit in a drawer for the next time

I went through this exact thing on a ICE-100 about 6 months back. The U screw was a pain because the head was also slightly stripped from the factory, looked like they overtightened on the assembly line. Ended up using a small pair of locking pliers on the head once I got the cover loose enough to grip the edge. Replaced it with a stainless m3 phillips on reassembly and ive been back in there twice since to clean wire connections. Honestly Cuisinart should just stop pretending these are sealed units, they break in predictable ways and we all open them anyway.

ICE-100 is the compressor model right? thats a way more complex unit than the freezer bowl ones, did you have to deal with refrigerant at all or was your fix just electrical

electrical only, didnt touch the sealed system. Mine was a bad relay on the compressor circuit. If you have to open the refrigerant loop on one of these its basically game over for a home repair
