i had one that flashed red and turned out the button itself was stuck halfway pressed. Cleaned around it with isopropyl and it was fine. Seperate issue from the battery entirely

That's actually a really common one. Smoothie residue gets under the button membrane and it reads as a constant press, then the controller throw an error because it thinks you're trying to start it without a cup.
lol "charge it and see" is the universal repair forum advice for anything with a lithium pack

yeah thats actually good. Solid red usually means its registering the battery again. Let it keep going till the light changes color entirely.

Deep discharge recovery mode. When the cell is below a certain voltage the BMS trickle charges it at low current and flashes to indicate that. Once it crosses the threshold it switches to normal charge and goes solid. Pretty standard for cheap BMS chips.
