Energy saving mode toggle on De'Longhi machines, how does it actually work?

While looking at De’Longhi espresso machine menus I noticed the energy saving mode were not very obvious to find. I’ve been looking into it a bit so thought I’d share what I found.
To enter the energy saving mode on a De’Longhi espresso machine you have to have the machine off but the main switch on the machine on. Once on, hold the steam button until the indicator show up. After entering the menu, press the espresso button to disable the energy saving mode and the indicator will flash. Pressing the espresso button again will enable the energy saving mode and the indicator will have a solid light. Finally, press the long button to confirm.
This mode seems to work on most espresso machine by the brand but I’m curious to know if it works on most of they models or just specific ones. The steam, espresso and long buttons seems to be used on most models so I’d imagine it would work on those but I haven’t heard from anyone who has use it on the touchscreen models. Have you used this mode on different machine?

It works on my Magnifica S; same exact sequence. Cant speak for the touchscreen models though.

On the Dinamica with the display there’s an eco mode toggle under the menu. So yeah, it does change on the higher end models.

What does the energy saving mode do though? Does it just lower the temp of the boiler when it’s idle or does it shut off the power to the heater altogether?

Does the boiler fully cool down in eco mode or does it just lower the standby temp of the machine? I’m curious as to whether or not it’s worth use if I only brew about 4 espressos per day.

Mine automatically shuts off after about 15 minutes in eco mode but takes about 40 second to heat back up when the button is pressed. Not a big deal.

40 seconds is forever when I’m barely awake.

You’re confident about this being the standard service entry for these models but it’s not actualy a service entry. It’s a user setting menu. The actual service mode is a different button combination altogether. You dont want people mess around with the descaling settings of their machine for instance.

Fair; sloppy wording on my part. I meant to say “user settings” menu. Service mode is a whole different beast.

For my Magnifica Evo it was slightly different; I had to hold the steam and rinse button at the same time for about 5 seconds. Took me forever to figure it out.

Same; the flashing vs solid light is hard to see in the bright kitchen. I had to do it three times before I was sure I had successfully enable the energy saving mode.

For me, the best setting is to leave the energy saving mode off because of the warm up time.

If the energy saving mode is on the auto shutoff time will be 15 minutes. If it’s off you can set the auto shutoff time between 15 minutes and 3 hours in the menu settings. Many people dont know this and complain that their machine is turning off too fast.

Wait so the energy saving mode overrides the auto off timer you set? That seems rather confusing to me why they didn’t just make the auto off timer the only setting to control how long the machine run.

Because the energy saving mode also lowers the standby temp of the boiler in addition to the auto off timer. Two separate settings bundled in one mode which is why the interface for it is rather muddled and confusing. It was probably added later when they coded in the feature though.
