Anyone know the actual reset combo on the La Specialista?

After you plug it back in the display should show you the hardness selector, then you press the cup buttons to cycle through the hardness to 1-4. Takes about 5 second.

is there any risk to doing the steam button reset thing? like could I brick it if I press the wrong button

No, you wont brick it. Worst case you exit the menu. You cannot brick it through the menus accessible by the user. Only through the firmware level menus which require the service tool.

fwiw I tried the double cup + my recipe combo three times before it worked. It seems like the hold time for steam matter, though I would have thought it would be easier than that.

alot of people dont realize the my recipe reset doesnt even fully wipe the recipe. If you saved a custom recipe to the default recipe spot at any time in the past the recipe will remain unless you overwrite it with a new recipe. Delonghi logic
