Saw the red triangle warning light up in a few Magnifica coffee machine threads recently so figured I’d ask the question since the info is kinda scattered about where. There are two different state for this warning: solid on vs flashing. These seem to mean different things so I’d like to know if this is in agreement with people here.
Solid red triangle mean the inside of the machine is dirty, specifically the grounds buildup so a cleaning is necessary. Once cleaned, if it persists, then its a service call issue. Flashing means the infuser is not properly seat so it should just resolve once you properly reinstall it. So different issue trigger the same warning, hence the confusion.
Has anyone else encounter these same issues with there own Magnifica? Is it the same for all model numbers? Let me know what youve heard, please!

yeah you got the basics right. Solid = clean me, flashing = infuser. But to properly cleaning the machine you have to pull out the brew unit and rinse it with warm water. Also give the rest of the machine a quick wipe down.

mine flashed for several weeks. Tried reseating the infuser like an idiot. Found that the microswitch behind the brew unit was sticky due to old grease. Once fixed, triangle clear.

wait does the microswitch thing work for all magnificas? mine is an ESAM3300 so where is the switch located?

pretty much all the magnificas that have a brew unit that can be removed. On the 3300 model its on the right side wall of the brew chamber where the infuser pushes on it. Use flashlight to see it better.

the manual shows the difference between solid vs flashing triangles. Its in the troubleshooting section in the back of the manual. People just dont read it.

worked on these for 6 years at a repair shop and the #1 cause for a solid red triangle that will not clear after a cleaning is the brew unit gears being worn or out of phase.
often people will clean the thing till its spotless and the light will still be on because the unit cannot find it’s way home to start. You can usually hear the grinder when its in this state. $60-80 for a whole brew unit depending on model. A 10 minute swap when you have to do this. Before jumping into service or troubleshooting the machine, try a new brew unit. This usually fixes maybe 70% of the issues with these brewers. The remaining 30% of the machines have issues with the control board or position sensor for the brew motor.

60-80 for a whole brew unit is fairly cheap, do you have a brand you prefer?

Lol the manual isnt clear on anything. Its in the manual. People will buy the machine, then throw the manual away once unboxed. People then come to reddit asking what the symbols mean. Nuts.
