What's the proper way to clean the milk frother on a De'Longhi?

Curious how folks here cleans the milk frother on there De’Longhi machines. I found somewhere a quick rundown on how to clean the frother. Wipe it down to get the residue off the steam wand first, then pull the outer metal sleeve off, wipe the internal part of the frother, rinse the metal piece off, and then reattach the metal sleeve. Seems simple enough but I’m wondering about any extra steps folks use to keep the frother from getting all gunky and dirty. Do folks typically disassemble the frother on the milk steam wand? Specifically, do folks wipe the internal piece beneath the metal sleeve of the steam wand? I’d imagine that the milk would burn on that internal piece if it isnt wiped right after each steam cycle, and that would affect the froth that gets created with the milk over time. How often do folks typically disassemble the frother on their De’Longhi milk steam machines? Do folks has to rinse the metal sleeve under hot water, or should soak it in something once in a while?

wipe right after every steam, full disassemble once a week, soak the sleeve and the little nozzle bit in hot water with a drop of dish soap. Takes 2 min and mine is 6 year old running like new.

Honestly the biggest thing nobody mentions is purging the wand BEFORE you wipe down the frother. Steam for 2 second into a cloth to clear out any milk that may have entered the steam wand. I have to do this or the frother slowly turns into cottage cheese.

does the soak actually do anything that hot water alone wont? like is the soap breaking down the milk fat or is it more for the protein residue? I dont use soap on mine and everything is fine but maybe im missing something

soap is for the fat mostly. The protein comes off with hot water but the fat clings to the metal. You can feel it with your finger inside the steam wand after a hot rinse vs a soap soak.

Citric acid solution once a month for the sleeve. Cuts through the baked on milk proteins more better than soap and its food safe. Just a couple tbsp in a cup of warm water and soak for 15 minutes.

the design across the lineup isnt as similar as you think btw. The magnifica frother is a totally different beast from the dinamica or eletta autofoam ones.
autofoam units has a little intake tube that tends to get clogged over time with milk residue, so you have to back flush it to clear the milk out of the intake tube otherwise you end up with foam that goes to garbage

wait so on the autofoam ones how do you back flush it? do you just run water through the intake tube or is there a specific procedure

Ran a Delonghi Magnifica at a small cafe for 3 years before I sold it on. Here’s how I cleaned mine:
After every drink I would purge the pitcher and wipe it down with a damp microfiber cloth.
At the end of the shift I would pull the sleeve off the machine and pull the inner black plastic piece out of the pitcher (twists off) and rinse it with hot water.
Once a week I would soak the metal and plastic bits in a 50/50 solution of hot water and white vinegar for 20 minutes then rinse it out with plenty of water (vinegar taste is strong in milk).
The airhole on the inner plastic piece gets clogged up and if you cant see through it, use a toothpick to clear it out.
I’ve seen people toss out good machines because they dont know about this airhole.

For autofoam machines there’s typically a silicone hose on the back of the autofoam attachment. Just pop off the milk container and you can flush the intake tube with hot water while holding the steam wand open.
