See the fun question about the pre-ground coffee funnel on the De'Longhi Magnifica machine getting gunked up? Thought it was worth a discussion.
According to the manual and some older posts, the recommendation is to brush the funnel out, vacuum it to remove the stuck ground, and then the user should pull the infuser out to clean that as well. This is because the funnel dump directly into the infuser. People sometimes forget to clean the infuser though, only cleaning the funnel by poking at it from the top.
What steps do people take for their Magnifica machines beyond the brush and vacuum routine? People can clean the funnel according to a set schedule to remove any coffee grounds that may have gotten into the machine that dont get used in the pre-ground coffee compartment all that often. However, from what I’ve seen most people do is just the routine laid out in the manual. Does anyone here actualy utilize a different approach to cleaning these machines?

brush + vac + pull the infuser is basically it yeah. I do mine maybe once a month even though i never touch the pre-ground hatch on the machine.

I typically brush and vacuum it, then use a slightly damp microfiber cloth held at the end of a chopstick to wipe the interior wall of the funnel. Coffee oils tend to build up on the plastic walls over time and a dry brush will not clean that. Let it air dry afterwards.

is it safe to use a little dish soap on the brew unit itself or just water? mine has some oily film on the screen part and water isnt cutting it

water only. Delonghi tells you not to use detergent on the infuser in the manual

The real issue isnt the funnel but the chute above it that holds the grounds. You cant really clean that without taking some of the top off the machine. The gunk that accumulates in the funnel come from within that chute.
