While poking around the settings menu on the Magnifica I figured I'd share some thoughts on the auto-off feature since it seem to not get discussed much. The intervals available to select from is 15 min, 30 min, 1 hr, 2 hrs, and 3 hrs. To adjust the setting the machine has to be in standby mode with the main switch to I. Holding the Long button will allow access to the settings menu, at which time tapping the Espresso button will cycle through each of the settings and pressing the Long button will confirm the selection. This seems like such an arbitrary selection process that it is likely most owners just leaves the setting to the default. I suppose the question is what do people prefers to set it to and why? 15 min is the energy saving setting but may be annoying to those who needs to brew coffee throughout the morning. The 3 hr setting may seem like overkill for those in standby mode but ensures that no shot have to be warmed up for those needing a second cup. Do people have an preference for one setting over the other or does it largely depend on the number of coffee shots draw through the machine each day?
