Magnifica auto-off timing options, what's everyone running?

While poking around the settings menu on the Magnifica I figured I'd share some thoughts on the auto-off feature since it seem to not get discussed much. The intervals available to select from is 15 min, 30 min, 1 hr, 2 hrs, and 3 hrs. To adjust the setting the machine has to be in standby mode with the main switch to I. Holding the Long button will allow access to the settings menu, at which time tapping the Espresso button will cycle through each of the settings and pressing the Long button will confirm the selection. This seems like such an arbitrary selection process that it is likely most owners just leaves the setting to the default. I suppose the question is what do people prefers to set it to and why? 15 min is the energy saving setting but may be annoying to those who needs to brew coffee throughout the morning. The 3 hr setting may seem like overkill for those in standby mode but ensures that no shot have to be warmed up for those needing a second cup. Do people have an preference for one setting over the other or does it largely depend on the number of coffee shots draw through the machine each day?

Does the heat up cycle use alot of energy? Does the rinse cycle cause wear and tear on the machine? I guess it depend on the answer to these questions.

3 hrs gang. I do at least 4 shots throughout the morning so it sits in standby mode without having to worry about warming up for another shot.

The rinse cycle every time it wake up is killing it. It pours water into the drip tray every time it wakes up.

Oh good point. I was unaware of this function. Does the machine only perform the rinse cycle if it has been off for at least some period of time to allow the machine to cool down?

To change the setting you hold the Long button while the machine is in standby mode with the switch to I. Tap the Espresso button to cycle through the settings and then press the Long button again to confirm. It took a few tries to get this right. One of those menus the manufacturer hide from the users.

It will only perform the water rinse cycle if the machine has been off for at least some period of time to reach a certain temperature. If you turn the machine back on quickly it will skip the rinse cycle. Which is another reason to use longer time settings.

15 minutes is the only correct answer. The machines are not built to sit in standby mode in the hot state. The scale within the machine will builds faster with these thermal cycles.

Scale form from the minerals in the water. It is true that thermal cycling impacts the seals more than leaving the machine in stand by mode. You just got it backwards.
