Heat pump for cooling? (Never had AC)

So, here’s my story… I never had AC before in our house for my entire life, just used open windows and fans for air circulation. I’m not sure what to expect in my newly installed heat pump used for cooling.

While it is definitely cooler than before, it doesn’t feel like chilling cold, is this normal or am I just expecting a lot from it? Like… it’s been running for almost a week now, nonstop.

Can anyone give me an advice about these kinds of stuff, I’m a legit newbie here, I need expert heat pump users to give me some advice. Please enlighten me on stuff that I need to know about heat pumps!

That’s pretty normal for heat pumps – they are often there just to maintain the temperature inside our house – to give consistent cooling rather than giving you a cold blast like AC do.

Is your insulation fine? Are you sure? If not, then contact someone who knows this stuff and make an appointment. Hmmm… how about the thermostat settings? Do you know how to use it?

Don’t expect too much from them, they’re not there to make your house chillingly cold! They’re there for maintaining the most comfortable temperature for you, especially when it is blazingly hot outside, like 90F above.

They’re good for maintaining the temp. If you want rapid cooling, better get AC instead. Plus, don’t turn them on and off frequently, they’re good when they’re run in long periods (saves more money).

Heat pumps are not designed for sudden icy blast, they’re for steady comfort unlike the AC. But, don’t get me wrong, they’re pretty good when it comes to maintaining comfort and saving energy.

Set the temperature and forget that you have installed a heat pump (don’t turn it on and off frequently), control the humidity and reduce it accordingly, and check the airflow based on its manual.

Double check your insulation. If there’s even one leakage, your heat pump might not be keeping your house cool enough for you.

No complaints here… Making sure that your house is well-insulated is a key thing to remember when having heat pumps.

Don’t forget about the proportional size of your heat pump to the size it cools. Smaller units tend to be more exhausted when cooling large places. Make sure that the heat pump is just the perfect size for you.

Well, Don’t expect too much from it. It’s supposed to be used as a comfort maintaining rather than hardcore cooling.

Two things:
  1. Airflow – check it occasionally, make sure it isn’t block or dirty for it to work well.
  2. Thermostat placement – make sure that it is placed well, not is places where there is direct sunlight or any warm spots that can affect its reading.

Call your installer and ask them if this is normal, or make them double check their installation. It might be troublesome to DIY this
