Ember Mug refusing to pair with the app, common fix?

See a few peoples asking about this so figured I'd toss it into one thread. The issue of the mug not pairing with an Ember mug app has come up alot. It's almost never the mug itself. It's almost always the phone's bluetooth cache getting confuse between the phone and the app.
Just go into your phone's bluetooth settings and forget the mug, remove it (iOS & Android), then uninstall the app completely. Reinstall the app and try to pairing with the mug. The order matter, so dont just reinstall the app without first forgetting the device.
Some people have had trouble with the factory reset suggestion for the mug, but this has worked every time for me and others who has tried.

yeah the forget device step is the one everyone skips. Did this for my wife's mug last month after she swore it was broken, took five minute.
 
For iOS device you have to turn bluetooth off and back on after you forget the device. Otherwise it will still be in the bluetooth cache. I dont think android do this.
If you have your Apple watch paired with the Ember app youll want to unpairing that device as well. It could potentially grab the connection to the mug instead.
 
does the mug have to be on the charging coaster while you are pairing? I recall reading that it has to be charge to pair with the app
