Just did a descaling on my DeLonghi and had to fumble through the process the first time. Manual icons arent too obvious so hopefully this saves someone else 10 mins of staring at there machine.
First you have to remove the water filters (would destroy the filter if you didnt) and add 100ml of descaling solution to the water tank. Top up with filtered water to the B mark. Place a container under the steam nozzle that can hold more than a mug worth of water. Hold the rinse button until the steamer icon start to blink and then you turn the steam knob to the hot water position. This will start the descaling cycle which take some time to complete.
Once the tank is empty the empty tank light will illuminate. Remove the tank and rinse it out well. Fill it to the MAX mark and place it back into the machine. The machine will automatically detects this and start the rinse cycle. Once the tank is full again the tank light will come on again. Empty and refill to MAX again and the teacup light will illuminate signaling that the cycle is complete.
The first cycle is usualy more significantly slower then the rinse cycles. It seems like the machine might get stuck in a loop but no, it just takes longer to complete the first cycle. The first coffee may taste slightly funky, run a water cycle to rinse the machine out and see if it change. It should. I made coffee after my first cycle and while it wasnt too bad it did taste off so I guess the residue from the water tank build up did transfer to the coffee grounds. I had forgotten to descale my machine in well over a year!
