This is a common problems, inactivity cause the DeLonghi machine to stop pumping water. Simply turning the machine on and off a few times will resolve this problem. It sound dumb but works every time before anyone has to touch a thing.
If still not working the usual suspect are the water tank valve, flow meter, pump, water path to the heater and hoses. Any of these can cause the machine to not pump the water through.
Which one is most likely to fail? Most would guess the flow meter gets scaled up over time. Or is it most likely the pump itself loses its prime? I’d think scale but what about all of you who has worked on a few of these machines? What have you noticed over time as to what the most common failure are on these models?

9 times outta 10 its the pump itself losing prime when these sits. Tap the side of the machine while its trying to pump, sounds stupid but it actually help. If that fails pull the tank out and check the little valve at the bottom, calcium loves to build up there and stick the check ball.

Flow meter scaling is way more overblown imo. Having serviced 30 plus of these mostly Magnifica and Dinamica models the most common issue is the silicone hose between the water tank valve and the pump getting kinked or air gap caused by people jam the tank when they put it back in. Second most common failure is the pump solenoid sticking from limescale residue. Flow meters just read wrong and the pump most common failing is rare.
