Saw a list of the main reason for the steam wand on the Specialista quitting. Thought it’d be worth opening up a discussion on the topic since it seem to come up alot in the owner groups. The list included things like a software glitch with the machine, wand or internal tube clogs from milk residue, faulty solenoid valve, broken steam function switch, clogged water inlet and the heater not firing at all. So a lot of variety in the causes, from a 2-minute reset to parts replacement. What have you all found to be the most common cause of the steam wand on a Specialista quitting? I’d think it’s either the clogged wand or the solenoid since those are the most common maintenance issue I’d see from home brewers. Any thoughts on the diagnostic process for these issues? For instance, is there a way to rule out the heater failure or the solenoid failure without having to replace either component? For instance, on some models the solenoid will click when it fires. Does the La Specialista have that function? What about the steam switch itself? Is that more of a common failure point than the others? I’d think it’s likely to fail either immediately or after about 1000 steam cycles, so it’s not likely to be the cause of the failure in the middle of the other failure points. I’d love to hear from anyone who’s actually had access to the steam wand what the most common cause of failure of the steam wand is. What do you think?
