Basically, I just wanted to share my experience with you folks about my transition to an all-electric heated house using all available appliances and system. From a simple heat pump used for heating and cooling, induction stove, dryer, and even water heater – no more gas for us now with this setup!

But, as far as me and my family are happy with this setup (especially in this coming winter and the noticeable savings in my bill), there’s still so much to learn about these adjustments. That is why I posted this to see how are you guys doing with these changes. How about you guys? What do you think? Are you team electric or team gas? I need more inputs about this journey, THANKS!
 
The only change I did to my house was changing my gas furnace into a heat pump. For me, I think it is just the same. I only noticed that it took longer to feel warm compared to gas, but once it is already warm, it is okay, I guess… 🤔

You’re right about this! Especially when its very cold, like bone-chilling weather, it really takes a longer time to heat up compared to gas! But I guess that’s okay because I am saving much more on energy bills.
 
How about in extreme cold weather, like subzero weathers? How does your heat pumps do? I also need to know because I’m also considering it due to efficiency reasons.

We have the same doubt at first, even at extreme temperatures such as -23C, my heat pump keeps our house comfortable at 22C, because I chose a model that can withstand these kinds of climates.

Yes, it’s true that it takes a longer time to heat up the place, but once it heats up, it heats the place evenly and comfortably.
 
Can you give me a solid reason on why should I risk a slower heating compared to my gas that heats up instantly? Change my mind about gas and I’m going with electric all in.

Changes are pretty scary, right? I’m in your shoes 2 years ago. If instant heating is all your concern, then don’t go with electric. But, if it is okay for your to have slower and consistent heating, and if you have energy savings concern, then I think you must consider changing to heat pump for the long run.
 
How does it do in the summer? I’m in a hot area and my primary concern is for cooling my place. How’s your bill?

Same as winter, very dependable and efficient! Does well in heating and cooling my house, without much effort and at a low-cost energy setting. I once had an old central AC, but I removed it to make space for my heat pump because I just figured out that its just as effective as my AC unit.
 
How’s your heat pump dryer? I’m curious and sceptical at the same time (might as well consider).

NGL, this was my main issue at first, but after the installation, haven’t had any issue so far. Hmm, the drying? Similar as my gas dryer. A bit quieter compared to gas. Honestly, the main issue that I had was it’s not as fast as my old gas dryer which isn’t that much of an issue.
 
How can I start switching everything up? I wanted to have an all-electric setup for so long, can you elaborate?

At first, it was really hard for me – planning the whole thing, bought some new appliances and sold my old ones, and get some contractors for the installations of heat pump and water heater. But the payoff is really worth it! Especially on the long run, the energy and money savings will build up in the future!
 
My only concern is that of their efficiency in extreme temperatures because I live in a really cold area. Can you make me jump in team electric?

Haven’t you read from above comments, if not, I’ll tell you again that my system is great in strong and extreme temperatures. Me, I live in a -23C neighborhood and my heat pump never failed to warm up my place. My only suggestion for you is to find a heat pump which is rated for extreme temps like ours.
 
Mind if you tell us how much the whole thing costs? In my research, long-term usage can make up for the expensive upfront cost, is that true?

For me, you should consider it as an investment rather than an upgrade. I think if you switch as early as possible, you could have your ROI early, because of how cheap it is to run compared with gas heaters. Check out for store rebates, it can help you tremendously!
