For the recipe that uses the pot in pot and requires dairy ingredients, how much water should be used in the outer pot? Does it come to pressure to the same degree?

For this recipe use 1 cup of water in the outer pot. Place a stainless steel bowl on the trivet and add the oats and milk to the bowl. It will come to pressure to the same degree but it will take a minute longer to reach pressure. There will also be no burn sensor warning since the milk will not come into contact with the heating element of the Instant Pot.

If you have an older model of the Instant Pot you will be fine with the recipe. However, if you have a newer model you will get a BURN sensor every time you use the recipe.

Regarding the foam that comes out of the valve of the Instant Pot it is not just the QR. This is also related to the recipe of the porridge. Too much starch should be in the recipe relative to the amount of headspace that the pot allows for the liquid. Ensure that you do not fill the pot past half full when preparing the recipe for porridge.
