Ninja Foodi Dual Zone reset trick, anyone tried this one?

See, a few people have mentioned to me of the need to perform a reset procedure on their Ninja Foodi Dual Zone air fryers. While it's not something that get mentioned in the manual itself, there are a few way to perform such a reset that may be of use to the owner.
Unplug the air fryer from the electrical outlet. Allow the appliance to sit for a few minute to allow it to fully power off. Following this period of un-plugging, re-plug the appliance into an electrical outlet while holding the power button. This action force a system reset on the appliance's control board. This system reset can be helpful should the appliance be stuck in some state, or if the air fryer is otherwise behaving in a glitchy fashion.
Does this reset any setting on the appliance? How long should the appliance be unplugged prior to this step? Have you used this procedure on your own appliance and found that this system reset performs some function beyond simply plugging the appliance in after unplugging it for a few minutes?

did this last month on mine when the left zone was throwing some random error code. Worked fine, didnt loose any of the cook history or anything so im pretty sure its just a soft reboot not a factory wipe.

Honestly 30 seconds unplugged is plenty. The caps drain fast on these, there's no big PSU sitting there holding charge for a minute.

wait does holding power while plugging in actually do anything different then just plugging it back in normally? like is there a separate boot mode the MCU enters or is the button hold incidental

manual doesnt mention it because ninja doesnt want you fixing your own stuff lol. Same reason they bury the wattage spec.

It's a soft reset. There's no EEPROM wipe happening. These units don't really store user preference beyond the last used setting anyway so there's nothing meaningful to clear.

so if it doesn't wipe anything what's the actual point of the button hold then? like what state is it putting the board into

The button hold pulls a GPIO line low at boot which the firmware checks during init. If it sees that line held it skips loading the last session state and boots clean. It's not magic, it's just a flag check on startup.

mine died completely after 14 months and ninja warranty was a joke. No reset trick gonna save you when the relay board fries.

^^ this. Reset only helps with firmware hangs and not hardware failure. If your heating element is toast nothing is going to help you.

Tried on my AF400 last week when the display was frozen. Unplugged for about two minutes and then it came back up. Settings seem fine, clock didn’t reset there isn’t one to reset anyway. I’d say soft reboot.

Not officially documented. But I've had a couple of these apart. Foodi grill uses the same thing.

dual zone is the best thing ninja makes. 3 years now and its bulletproof with no resets needed.

speaking of resets does anyone know if you can flash custom firmware on these? probably not but would be sick to be able to make the temps higher in the fryer.

lmao no. There's no debug header youre going to find on these units. Even if there was its going to be some proprietary ninja sdk to use just buy one of the commercial air fryers.
