Ember mug reset, is it really just the blue/yellow/red LED cycle?

Saw a few mentions of resetting the Ember mugs floating around lately. I wanted to see if anyone here had had to do this with their mug. From what I understand, you have to hold the power button until the led goes through blue, yellow, and red. Once it hit red the mug is reset.
Is this supposed to clear the mug? It seems like a lot of these devices uses the color leds to indicate some kind of reset or config of the product. The Ember docs dont go into what happens when you do this though. I would assume it would clear the paired bluetooth device and temp preset that was set for the mug.
Does it need to be held for a specific length of time? Does it need to be held until it hits red? The indication of blue, yellow, and red makes me think that it has to be held until it hits red since the others are in the middle of some mode that should not be exited. Does anyone know what each of the colors indicate?
I figured I'd toss this out there since it gets mentioned a lot but never really explain what happens during this process.

yah it's basically just hold til red. Blue is normal state yellow is when it's in bluetooth mode (pairing) and red is when it actualy resets the mug.

Honestly I just chucked mine in a drawer when the battery started dying after 20 min of holding charge. These things are not build to last and resetting it wont fix a dead cell.

can confirm the blue/yellow/red thing. Did it last month when the app wouldnt see my mug. First try with holding for maybe 8 seconds.

The colors indicate the state of the mug. Blue means its on, yellow means its in bluetooth mode and ready to pair to the app and red means it's resetting the NVRAM. This is standard for bluetooth devices. They only have one led so its used to indicate these different states. If you hit yellow it will go back into bluetooth mode so that it can be paired to the app.

ok that makes sense. So the NVRAM is where it stores the bluetooth pairing info and the temp preset?
