Hamilton Beach FlexBrew reset, is there even a proper way?

Unplugging it overnight when it starts to act up seems to work the best for me. It’s a 5 minute unplug versus a 10 hour unplug so who cares?

What surprised me about the Flexbrew coffee maker was that the firmware did not have brownout detection built in. If it were a $50 coffee maker the MCU would have this built in. I’d think Hamilton beach would have saved a few cent on a $40 coffee maker by not setting it up properly so that they could teach grandma how to unplug it for 5 minutes.

Is there any way to tell from the outside of the coffee maker what kind of MCU they used in the Flexbrew? I’m interested in knowing if it was a common brand like a PIC or one of the generic Chinese brands.

It is the no-name 8 bit microcontroller that is under that blob of epoxy on the Flexbrew coffee maker’s circuit board. It could be either a Holtek or a Sonix brand so not the most common PIC but not one of the Chinese brands either. I’m pretty sure it is not a common brand since that would make the coffee maker more expensive at around $100.
