Found a method for congee in an aroma rice cooker. The rice to water ratio are 1:14 so 1/2 cup jasmine rice to 7 cup water or 1 cup rice to 14 cups water. That’s alot of water for congee. Still, rice cookers take some time for cook rice so I suppose it make sense.
Rice should be rinse before adding to the rice cooker. Add any ingredient to rice such as mushrooms or carrots. Set rice cooker to White Rice program. It takes around 2 hours to cook. I’m not sure why since the white rice program usually takes less time but maybe its because of an amount of water in the rice cooker.
I’m not sure if the white rice program will cook rice with so many water. 14 cups of water for a standard aroma rice cooker is close to the maximum line of water for rice cookers depending on the model of rice cooker. I’m curious to know if anyone has cook congee on an aroma rice cooker to see if it would cook the congee properly. Also, jasmine rice or short-grain rice?

1:14 is on the wetter end but not crazy for proper jook. I usually use a 1:10 ratio in my Aroma 8 cup rice cooker. It works perfectly in the white rice mode and takes about 90 minutes to cook. It will not boil over but I leave the vent pointed away from the wall in case it do.

jasmine works but short grain rice will break down faster and will produce more creamy in the congee. Honestly, the rice does not realy matter but stick to a certain type because of the ratio of rice to water.

wait does the white rice program actually run for 2 hours with that much water? Mine will click to warm mode much earlier than 2 hours even with add extra liquid to the rice cooker. Is this a function of the newer rice cookers or do the older models does this as well?

Mine’s the older ARC-914 style so yes it does run longer. The thermistor that senses the temperature of the rice will not trigger until the temperature spike above boiling which only happens after most of the water is cooked up. Not sure about the digital models though.

you guys are overthink this. Throw the rice and water in a pot and simmer on medium heat for 45 minutes. Done. Why use a rice cooker for congee when a stockpot will do the same job in under an hour smh

ran congee (1:13 ratio) in my 6 cup aroma rice cooker last winter. Came out perfect. Just dont fill rice cooker past the 10 cup line or youll get starch foam coming out of the vent. I know because it took me an hour to clean up my counter lol. Use jasmine for cleaner tasting congee. Short grain rice will get gluey so use it only if you like that texture. Stir a bit of ginger in the rice and a splash of oil will help keep the rice from foaming up. It will take around 2 hours to cook. I cooked mine for 1 hour and 45 minutes.
