Anyone cracked open a mini Crockpot? Those bottom rivets are weird

Has anyone tried just heating the rivet head with a soldering iron to soften it before pulling? aluminum doesnt care what heat you apply but if its some zinc alloy it may work to loosen it enough to grab with vice grips. Just thinking out loud here.

zinc melts around 800f so a soldering iron will never touch it. Might work on plastic rivets but these arent plastic

ah gotcha, so then drilling is the way to go then

the wire routing inside the mini crockpots is the worst. There is literally no slack in the wire routing and if you go too fast in removing the bottom the spade connector from the heating element will get ripped off. Take it slow when removing the bottom

i chewed up my first one definately. Second one i used a dremel cutoff wheel to slice the heads off the product

oh dremel is smart, doesnt it mark up the housing tho?

tape it around the area where its gonna be cut first. Its only takes 10 seconds and the cutoff wheel is so thin that you have a lot of control in where you cut
