I’m having problems about my sewer. I had it inspected by my plumber using a camera scope, he said that my sewer line has several issues including multiple cracks, root intrusions, older pipes, rough spot that causes blockage.

He gave me two options, one is to repair the damage costing about $5k, another is replacing the whole line for about $15k.

I know that repairing it might be temporary, but 15k is just too much for me. 😔

Do you guys have the same problem as I am? Is it worth it to just repair it? Or replacing seems more legitimate solution? I need some solid advice before making any major decisions! Thanks in advance!

How old of a sewer line are we talking about? If it’s made out of clay or cast iron, maybe it’s best to replace it. I know its expensive now, but sooner or later, you’ll be saving more compared to just repairing it.

15 grand can be very brutal at first, but if you have the money, just go for that instead of repairing. Repairing it might just delay the inevitable. Lastly, repairing all the time also costs much when adding them up. I’d go for replacement over repairing.

I have also experienced this first hand; I chose repair and it worked for the first few years. Sadly, the roots came back and I was forced to replace my whole sewer. I should have chosen the replace route from the beginning of my problem.

That’s what haunts me – spending $5k and eventually spending $15k. 😔

Find another plumber and get second opinion from him, if his opinion isn’t enough, find another one until you find the best opinion. Ask them if trenchless replacement is available, it can save you money because its less invasive compared to full replacement.

I had the same problem a few years back, had pipelines that are very old about 60 years old, and our everyday life was very stressful. I went with full replacement because of the same issues; roots, old spots, pipe cracks, there’s so many to mention.

One realization is its not about the price, its about the peace of mind it gave my family. No more calling for plumber, worrying about repairs, no more water issues or any worrying stuff. The money you’ll pay will buy your family peace every time they use water on your house.

Don’t gamble your family’s peace of mind by choosing repairs, go for replacement if your pipes are really old.

Didn’t thought of that, mate! Thanks! Mines already 50 years old and replacement might be the right thing to do. I’ll gladly spend a fortune for the peace of mind of my family. 😊

Do you plan on selling your house in the next few years? If yes, then go replace your sewer lines. No one wants to deal with faulty sewer lines.

Solid advice, new sewer lines can increase the total value of your home when selling it. Not all people know how to deal with pipes and they tend to choose brand new pipes instead of dealing with old and rusty ones.

Choose repair if you really don’t have the money, but I suggest you save some for a full-blown replacement. A repair won’t last especially when there are involved roots.

Agree, dude! When roots are in pipes, there’s no more repair you can do about it, everything will be temporary.

Had this situation last year, went with trenchless approach, and it was great! Some areas do offer a trenchless replacement, some do not, and I was very lucky that our neighborhood has this trenchless approach.

If this is available in your area, ask about the materials, for some liners are better than others. I will choose replacing over repairing anytime, now that trenchless is here, it is greater compared to digging my whole yard.
