Anyone got any good advices about the cost of having screened-in porch? I mean, how much money do I need to install one? Been hearing numbers from 10 to 30 grand, which one’s more realistic? How do I keep my buck’s worth on the materials? Sorry if I got a lot of qs, I just wanted to be sure.

I live in Raleigh and the porch is about 200 sqft. The screen is for bugs outside – nothing too fancy, just wanted to deal with this bugs issue for good lol!

Can anyone suggest any good brands, how much did they cost, and is it worth it? Need some solid advice rn, guys! 👊

I spent around 18k for my 150-sq-ft porch last season. It included some state-of-the-art ceiling fan, custom woodwork, and modern design.

Yours might be the same range as mine, only a little bit higher. But, considering the inflation nowadays, it could go really high (I hope not). Maybe budget it from 20k or even up to 25k depending on the size and materials.

I would never spend $30k for mine unless I wanted it to be extravagantly designed or really high-tech smart features.

My front porch was built for about $12k, had a bare-bones setup (wood, frame, mesh screens, and simple roof). If you’re going for a design like mine, you can probably DIY it yourself, if you’re pretty handy.

Seems pretty reasonable! I don’t plan on getting too fancy either, just a sturdy work that can last a lifetime, if possible. How long did they build it? Did they take a month or just weeks?

I know a friend who spent 25 grand for the same sized porch as you are. For me, it was an overkill! Recessed lighting, hardwood flooring, and even an outdoor fireplace are its highlights. For you, I recommend keeping a budget between 15 to 20 grand.

Nearly a month, more than three weeks all in all. The most tiresome part was waiting on inspections and materials. 😒If I were to calculate the build time, it was about two weeks. Choose a contractor who’s legit, don’t cut budget on them, you’ll pay a lot more in the long run if you neglect their importance.

Don’t focus on the design, focus on its usage. If you overdo on the design, you prolly go out of budget easily. Don’t make the design match the materials and style of your home.

Solid advice! I’m more of a functionality over design guy, though, I didn’t want the design to be that farfetched of the main design of my house. It will still be nice if the design would blend in my main house. Thanks for your advice! 😊

I would suggest to focus your budget on materials – composite decking, aluminum screens, and treatments for discoloration of basic wood decks. It is worth every penny if you bought the proper materials and installed in the right manner. It cost me about 20 grand for my 180sqft space, never been happier with the result!

Find materials that are reputable for their longevity, don’t settle on cheaper screens because they’ll rip or discolor easily. Choose wood decks that are treated right to make your bucks worth, spending more for longevity can save you more dollars than doing repairs overtime.

Summers in Raleigh can be so vicious! Invest more in your air ventilation by buying some ceiling fans or some high-end air regulator!

I am very proud that I did mine myself – just a little DIY knowledge, watching and researching videos, and old tools in my garage, I managed to finish mine in less that 5 grand! 😊 Try DIY if you’re handy, or maybe get a little help from friends or neighbours.

Wooow, man!!! That’s a saver! How was it? Did you bought all the tools needed? How was the time? How long did it take you to finish your porch? Pretty hyped bout your work!

It took me few weekends to finish the whole thing, it was pretty worth it. Had some help from my friends and I was lucky because most of the tools needed was already in my garage. The best help I got was from YouTube tutorials – It’s a real lifesaver when figuring out the roof pitch!

Yea, dude! Investing on great materials is a must! Cheap materials aren’t worth it, it may cost a little for now, but on the long term, you’ll regret buying them at the first place.

If you worry about functionality more than design, you can always add some simple wood frame painted to match your house perfectly. It would surely keep your house looking good, without hurting your budget.

Don’t forget about HOA! Make sure that your porch meets with their local codes. It’ll keep you away from spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the heads up! I didn’t even think about that until you’ve commented. I’ll do some research about my HOA before making some big decisions!

Can you believe that we got a quote for $35k last year??? I could do a lot of things to my house with that!! I completely trashed the porch idea after that quotation!!
FOR REAL?? You could do a lot for 35 grand! Did they break down the whole computation or even explain why it was so expensive??

They didn’t even bother explaining – just told us the generic “labor and materials costs are high” excuse. Maybe these contractors are testing how much money they can milk from us. 🤦
