Anyone know any good options for house heating that doesn’t use electricity? I’m checking out on propane heaters, read that they’re safe but I still have my doubts about them. I need to have some quality, I badly need it especially winter is very near.

My take on propane is that it is safe when you used it based on the manufacturer’s instruction and you have proper ventilation in your house. Check out Mr. Heater Buddy’s propane, they’re the most reputable brand when talking about prepping.

Propane’s carbon monoxide is the most crucial thing about them. Go buy some good CO detector to lessen the risk if you decide to have them inside your house.

Kerosene’s the best for me – no canisters unlike propane, very efficient, and cost-effective. And just like other heaters, proper ventilation comes first before anything.

Have you ever search about thermal mass or do you already know about it? I think you might consider this one, if you’re really going for a change. This tech requires no constant fuel unlike all heaters out there.

If you don’t have the budget but you really wanted no electricity heater on your house, I think wood-burning stove is perfect for you. Just don’t forget to have CO detectors, they’re necessary for any houses with heaters.

How well does your kerosene smell in your house? Pretty scary for me.

Ngl, there’s still some smell at first and when you turn it off. Mid operation = no smell. I guess cheap fuel stinks unlike good-quality ones?

I’m curious about low-tech options like candle-powered heaters from clay pots. Lol. Do they really work?

Mr. Heater Buddy sounds like a viable option for me. I’ll look into this and might as well buy a CO detector. Thanks!

Try Kidde combo smoke and co detector – cheap, reliable, efficient.

For me, I’d still suggest you to invest in a good quality generator and electric space heater just for back up. You’ll never know that you need them. I think that they’re a lot safer compared to wood flames inside my house.

Ventilation! No denying, generator is still one of the most solid options, but without proper ventilations, generators are useless.

insulate the room properly before buying a heat source. Invest on good block drafts, heavy curtains, large soft comfy rugs for living room, and try to set-up a large tent inside to trap heat. Do everything just to prevent heat from coming out your home, conserve warmth before choosing a heater.

Now, for your situation, especially that winter is nearing, I think your best bet is to buy propane or kerosene. Just don’t forget to buy some back up batts, extra cannisters, good CO detector, and fire extinguisher for emergencies.

Also, look onto heated blankets with batts. They’re really effective and can really warm you up – easy-to-use and no ventilation needed.
