below about 2.5v per cell the battery is in dangerous territory. Below 2.0v it's probably best to recycle the battery. Between 2.5 and 3.0v you can try to revive but the cell will never be the same and the runtime will be garbage. Personally not worth the effort on a mug. Just swap the cell.
mine that was staying solid red on the coaster ended up being the coaster. It charged fine with a friend's coaster. Ember sent me a new one under warranty.
