Did I get scammed by a garage door repair?

I once contacted a technician to fix my garage door due to its crooked position and alignment that has come off its tracks.

After finishing the whole door, he charged me $400 mostly for labor, with just minimal replacements such as screws and bolts. He aligned the loose tracks, tightened everything, and reposition the nylon rollers in just an hour.

Is $400 a good price or is it too much? I felt like I was scammed by the technician, what do you all think about this?

I don’t think you got scammed. First, you hired a very skilled and insured professional that handled your problem in an hour. Unless he gave you a misleading estimate, there’s no issue about this. If you think that you can do it, you might as well DIY it yourself and watch some videos on youtube. But man, door springs? Goodluck with that lol!

100% agree I once messed up with my garage door and ended up accepting the quote of my technician. I tried DIYing it but it didn’t feel natural at all.

I tried searching for some help in the internet and found out that replacement of the whole door would cost me about $700 to $900. Paying for $400 seems like a bit much but trust me on this, you will choose paying $400 in exchange for the safety and quality of your garage door.

Dude, springs are really dangerous to mess with! If you think that they’ve scammed you, you should always ask a rough estimate before an appointment. Get detailed breakdown before approving anything.

I had similar problem and able to get a schedule from Roto-Router. They fixed it all in less than 20 minutes and charged me about $450 total. I would definitely choose that over spending $2400 again for a new door. I’ve search for three companies and neither of these companies have a door price under $1600 to $1800.

He mastered this craft and paid years to earn this skill. $400 is nothing compared to his achievements in his field, finishing work in less than 1 hour is without issue is priceless.

Yes, I did agree on a computation because I don’t want to attempt the repair myself. I also understand that expertise and safety have its own price. I just got shocked because I compared costs online. Btw, thank you everyone for your insights on this! I appreciate it dearly
