My DeWALT circult saw, 6 and half inch, not really working well and it that's been giving off a strong burning smell. I checked the parts and did not see any obvious burning signs. I am worried if anything wrong with it and it is actually lack of power at the same time. I also replaced the carbon brush holder but it is still has the burning odor. Is this normal for new brush holder replacement?

There would be issue like carbon dust left behind if the brushes wear down. Just use WD-40 or some other electrical contact cleaner to clean out.

Same here, my old circular saw had a strong smell too. But since there are many new model that is brushless, I would prefer to upgrade to brushless mode like the DCS565 instead of changing, replacement, cleaning, etc…..so much hassle.

Definitely considering for upgrading if I am not able to solve this issue myself.

for brushed model, its motor would emit some sparks and it is normal sometimes. No need to rush and change this and that. Just wait for longer time and the odour should disappear.
