Good day especially to those who collects antique and vintage tools! I’ve been into collecting vintage tools due to their sturdiness, reliability, and charm that you can’t see in modern tools. My problem is that I can’t figure out or find where to look for them, I tried online, antique shops, and even bidding sales. Another problem is that their price is much higher than usual.

I’m trying to go into estate sales and flea markets, but honestly, I never been into any of this, and wanted some inputs before going into one. I’ll be glad for any comments or suggestion for this, like places, negotiating tips, or specific tools to look for. Any inputs are warmly accepted 😊

I highly recommend estate sales! Go early, for you to find rare and specific tools, and find rare finds before anyone else!
Second it bro, especially when the last day comes… oohhh, that’s the where the good stuffs are! People in estate sales always wanted to get rid of their stuff, especially in the last day. You may find bundles of an entire toolbox for less just to clear up some of their space. Great finds for cheaper value.

Try local auctions, I prefer this one over anything. Many farmers sell of their high-quality tools in local auctions for less. I remembered buying an old brace and bit for just $10 last month and I always use it every time. I even bought some wood tools like chisel, planes, and old school drawknife for less than $50. Its like a gamble for me, but I love gambling lol!

For me, flea market is my go-to when I wanted to buy some vintage and rare tools. Any vintage markets have several trash items and maybe a little bit hard to find some rare and incredible loots for super cheap value. I suggest that you visit a specific market regularly and always talk with sellers to strike the best deal in the future.

While flea markets are great, I would suggest FB Marketplace. Very convenient, easy to use, always has something to offer, specific items, what more? People here always post vintage items when moving or cleaning their garages. My tip is to be cautious for overpriced vintage tools, doesn’t mean its old it’s also valuable.

FB Marketplace for me is mid. They’re plenty of scammers, always watch out for overpriced trash items. But don’t get me wrong, there is still good valuable items here, you just need to scrape the whole thing and you also need some luck for you to land on good deals.

Hmm. How do you know about auctions? How do they tell people about these markets? I’m interested on attending one in the future.

In the local newspapers and community boards – even online events and forums, sometimes in fb groups. Compared to any events, estate auctions have a lot of good items specifically bundled tools. If you’re into specific items, you need to call someone from the event and ask them if the item is available. My tip before going into one is to always bring cash and notes to keep track in items.

Flea markets are good but always have a knowledge for specific things that you like to get. Have proper knowledge about it, research, and ask pros to avoid junks and useless items. Take note about brands and their specifications and you’ll be good to go.

Take a look at Craigslist too. Have a lot of patience and you’ll surely score some very good deals. Just like FB market, some sellers here are sketchy and unreliable.

I second Craigslist, had some great and not so good deals here. You’ll need some luck in here, but this marketplace is really good if you have patience. Scored some good screwdrivers for just $10. The seller seemed to have no idea on their tools, grabbed the offer, and ended up pretty happy on what I’ve got.

If you really wanted to find some good finds and have more budget, try antique stores, you’ll be able to find good tools in great shape.
For me, antique stores are overrated and kinda mid. They’re items that are usually overpriced. 😩Better if you buy antique items from yards sales and restore them yourself.

My 2 cents belongs to asking older relatives and neighbours, they might have the things that you wanted sitting on their garage or keeping them in safe places. They often have items that wanted to give to a relative or special someone who has an eye for good old stuff.

Oh yeah man, that a pretty solid idea. I guess my uncle has pretty good old stuff that he wanted to pass on his relatives. I’ll ask about it when I see him the next time I go for a visit.

For me, yard sales is my bias. I know some people who doesn’t care about the price – just to get rid their tools or items is their main goal which is good for us who supports yard sales.
